(ANSA) - NEW YORK, 22 JAN - The UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, "condemns" the air strikes of the Saudi Arabian coalition in Yemen and "reminds all parties that attacks directed against civilians and civilian infrastructure are prohibited from international humanitarian law ". In a note from the spokesman he also reminds all parties of their obligations under international humanitarian law to "guarantee that civilians are protected from the dangers deriving from military operations, adhering to the principles of proportionality, distinction and precaution".


    The secretary general calls for "timely, transparent effective investigations into these incidents to ensure accountability", and an "urgent de-escalation of the situation", urging the parties to engage with his special envoy to advance the political process and reach a negotiated solution to settle an end to the conflict.
