(ANSA) - EREVAN, 23 JAN - Armenian President ArmenSarkissian has announced his resignation.
"I thought for a long time and I decided to resign after four years of active work" because "the president does not have the necessary tools to influence important foreign and domestic policy processes in difficult times for the people and the country," Sarkissian said in a statement.
In Armenia, the office of president lasts seven years and has the symbolic role of guarantor of national unity, while the executive power is attributed to the prime minister, who leads the government.
