For almost 2450 euros, a surgeon offered a patient's X-ray for sale as digital art. The survivor of the terrorist attack in the Bataclan concert hall in Paris knew nothing about it.

A French doctor has put an X-ray of a victim of the terrorist attack on the Bataclan concert hall in Paris up for sale online in November 2015.

The surgeon wanted to auction the image of his patient's forearm, which was shot through, on the OpenSea platform, which specializes in digital artworks, reported the news portal Mediapart.

The young woman was therefore not asked for permission.

The doctor admitted the auction to "Mediapart" and referred to "pedagogical motives".

He then withdrew the offer.

It was a "mistake" not to ask the patient for permission.

The image that was displayed on "OpenSea" to illustrate the auction offer and which is said to show a Kalashnikov bullet stuck in the arm, was still available on Sunday.

The admission was priced at $2,776 and the offer read: "This young patient, who lost her boyfriend in the attack, had an open fracture of the left forearm with a residual Kalashnikov bullet in the soft tissue".

Victims' associations sharply criticize the surgeon

On November 13, 2015, Islamist attackers killed 130 people in the Bataclan concert hall, in front of cafes and restaurants and near a football stadium in the French capital.

90 people died in the Bataclan alone.

Victims' associations sharply criticized the surgeon.

The head of the Paris Hospital Association, Martin Hirsch, also spoke of a “scandalous act” in a message to the staff.

On Twitter he announced that he would involve the judiciary.

Digital works of art, so-called Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), have been the subject of real hype in recent months.

Like cryptocurrencies, the NFT system is based on blockchain technology.

In contrast to cryptocurrencies, however, a non-fungible token is unique and, to a certain extent, a digital collector's item that can be sold or exchanged using a certificate.
