(ANSA) - LISBON, JAN 23 - Ballot boxes open today in Portugal, a week before the general elections scheduled for January 30, to reduce the crowds next Sunday in full pandemic from Covid: over 300 thousand voters have registered to vote and the seats will open at 8:00 (9:00 in Italy).
The elections were brought forward after Parliament rejected the socialist minority government's budget bill. The socialists, according to the polls, are still in the head but their advantage over the rivals of the center-right is dwindling.
Prime Minister Antonio Costa, who has led two consecutive minority socialist governments since 2015, is among the electorates to vote today.
According to a survey by Radio Renascenna, isocialists can count on about 38% of the votes, a counterpoint to more than 30% of the Social Democratic Party (PSD, center-right), the main opposition party: Costa, therefore, once again risks finding himself without a majority in Parliament.
