(ANSA) - WASHINGTON, 23 JAN - A police officer was brutally killed in Texas, in the Houston area, while he was busy at a checkpoint.
A man, after getting out of the car, immediately opened fire, exploding several shots at close range.
The policeman, a 47-year-old veteran with 12 years of service behind him, died on the spot.
The episode comes the day after the murder of another agent, a 22-year-old boy in New York, and confirms that America is experiencing a boom in cases of violence, many of them against law enforcement.
According to official data, 2021 was a real black year with 62 agents killed, in addition to 40 in 2020.
Numbers well above the average of previous years and partly linked to the consequences of the crisis and the pandemic.
