Chinese health authorities officially lifted after a month the total lockdown against Covid in Xi'an, the capital of Shaanxi, allowing its 13 million residents to return to normal.
The announcement, made in the morning, followed the restart of commercial flights decided yesterday, to signal a situation under control.
Xi'an, the most serious Delta variant outbreak in China in recent months, has been a delicate test of the Communist Party's "zero tolerance" to Covid, based on targeted blockades, travel restrictions and mass testing every time that a case is discovered.
There are 78 cases of Covid-19 confirmed from 4 to 22 January as part of the activities related to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics, according to a note from the Organizing Committee, less than two weeks after the opening of the Games on 4 February.
