The Corona apps from the Robert Koch Institute are among the most used apps in Germany.

But some hidden functions are still unknown.

Munich – In 2020, the Robert Koch Institute developed the Corona warning app to track contacts.

After two years of the corona pandemic, it is one of the most used apps in Germany.

And: The app has other functions, such as check-ins, test certificates and digital proof of vaccination.

But Corona-Warn and the CovPass app have other hidden features that many are not even aware of.

Hidden functions in Corona-Warn-App and CovPass: Vaccination certificates for family members

On the train, when shopping or in the restaurant: the vaccination certificate is now needed almost everywhere. But if the cell phone battery is empty, consumers cannot access the digital proof. Both apps offer an emergency solution for this: In the CovPass app, the proof can be easily saved as a PDF and printed out. Users can also display the print version as a PDF in the Corona-Warn-App.

So that children who do not yet have their own smartphone do not always have to carry the printed vaccination certificate with them, there is a function for parents to add further certificates to the app.

A corresponding QR code is also required for this, which can be saved in the CovPass app via the plus symbol.

The Corona-Warn-App also offers the option of saving certificates from family members.

Corona apps: check the validity of trips

Vaccination or recovery is usually necessary for travel abroad.

But researching which rules apply where can be time-consuming and confusing.

The apps from the Robert Koch Institute can make this process easier: Under “Check validity”, users can check before a trip whether their proof is valid in the respective country.

Destination and entry date must be specified.

However, holidaymakers should note that the entry rules can change at short notice.

The RKI therefore recommends checking the certificate again shortly before entering the country - a maximum of 48 hours before entering the country.

However, users cannot rely one hundred percent on the validity: Different rules or restrictions may apply in individual regions, which are not recognized by the apps.

Will Luca become superfluous?

Corona-Warn-App can now also scan Luca codes

Until now, QR codes from the Luca app were mostly used when checking in at restaurants or offices.

Many consumers therefore had two Corona apps on their smartphones.

This is no longer necessary: As the federal government has informed, the Corona warning app can now also scan QR codes that were issued with Luca.

However, this is not yet possible the other way around.

The function should make it easier for operators to no longer have to create an individual code for each app.

In the future, users who do not use the Luca app will also be able to register for events.

However, this option only applies to codes created after May 25, 2021.

“This does not change anything in terms of the functionality and the high data protection standards of the Corona-Warn-App,” says the website of the federal government.

Personal data will still not be recorded or passed on to third parties.

Good news for many users, because the Luca app has already been criticized several times for data protection.

New function for Corona-Warn-App: Warning function for events

Another advantage that results from this: If visitors were checked in with the Corona-Warn-App, organizers can warn them of a possible risk encounter.

If a person tests positive, a transaction number is issued, which allows the organizer to send an alert to everyone who attended the event.

Another new function now also makes check-in easier for operators: the app can display the status of the app user.
