My child has Corona - can I still go to work?

If your child's corona test is positive, you have to go into quarantine.
But are parents affected too?
Or are they allowed to go to the workplace?
In schools, children are currently being tested for the corona virus* several times a week with rapid tests.
But daycare children should also take a test if they show symptoms of a corona infection such as a runny nose, cough or fever.
If the test is positive, they have to be quarantined.
Parents and siblings may also have to be isolated at home - but not in every case.
The child's corona self-test is positive - what happens now?
As soon as the rapid corona test, which is carried out at school, shows a positive result in your child, this is considered a suspected corona case and the child has to go home in quarantine. The pediatrician issues a sick note for this period. While the school informs the health department and sends classmates home in voluntary self-isolation, the child's parents concerned have to have a
PCR test carried out on their child
. The latter also applies if a self-test was carried out at home.
If the PCR test is also positive, the parents will be contacted by the health department and
the child will be quarantined for
several days (the quarantine period should be shorter for vaccinated young people who fall ill despite corona immunization).
With a few exceptions, your child is not allowed to leave the home or receive visitors during domestic isolation – even if they are not showing any symptoms.
The responsible health authority will inform you about the point in time from which your child can attend daycare or school again and whether a free test is required.
Your child was only quarantined as a contact person of a corona-positive person?
Then the following quarantine regulations apply to the parents.

Do parents and siblings also have to be in quarantine?
The regulation on the quarantine obligation is determined by the respective state ordinance.
In Bavaria, for example, the following currently applies: If close contacts, including parents or siblings,
are fully vaccinated
and do not show any corona symptoms, they
do not have to be in quarantine
(as of November 11, 2021)
.
The reason: According to the current state of knowledge, the risk of transmission from vaccinated people is significantly lower.
If typical corona symptoms occur despite vaccination, the health department can still order quarantine.
Incidentally, the same applies to
recovered family members
whose Covid 19 disease dates back a maximum of six months.
For
unvaccinated parents or family members
in the household, however, quarantine for several days is always mandatory.
You can find out how long it lasts and when you can take a free test from the responsible health authority.
However, unvaccinated workers in quarantine are not entitled to continued payment of wages if they are not ill.
Can I go to work if my child is Corona positive?
If the parents of a corona-positive child
do not have to go into quarantine themselves
, they can continue to work.
They are even obliged to work, be it in the home office or at work.
However, external care of the infected child by grandparents or other external care options is out of the question.
If the parents cannot ensure that the child is looked after (also applies when working from home), they are also available for children under the age of twelve who are subject to quarantine
Children's sick days
too.
This means that employees can be released from work and receive compensation for the loss of earnings, the
child sickness benefit
.
The continued payment of wages is thus secured.
Parents who have to be in quarantine
and do not show any symptoms of Covid disease are not allowed to come to the workplace, but may have to work from home.
