The designer was born in 1948 as Manfred Thierry Mugler in Strasbourg, France, and has been a talented performer since childhood.
Until the age of 14 he was a ballet dancer, and later also an acrobat and fashion model.
When he was 24 he moved to Paris, and what started as clothing design for boutiques in the city, soon progressed to independent design for fashion houses in Paris, Milan and London.
In 1973 he launched his own fashion line called "Café de Paris" and in 1976 he opened a boutique with a clothing line for men.
The great breakthrough and international recognition came in the late 1980s, when in 1992 he released the first haute couture line bearing his name.

Mugler signed memorable pieces, some of which will be preserved in the pages of fashion history, such as the futuristic and intricate clothing sets he designed for nineties supermodels who starred in George Michael's "Too Funky" which was a resounding success, or the famous black dress Demi Moore wore in the movie " Indecent Proposal".
Known for his theatrical designs that accentuated wide shoulders, tiny to impossible waists and fine tailoring, Mugler brought to the fashion world an image of powerful and almost bionic women and became a designer that supermodels and muses especially loved and totally devoted to, even in blatant artistic nude photos.
