Exit meditation, long live
shifting
! While the whole world is meditating on its
zafu
(cushion), another trend is emerging on social networks: shifting, a kind of neo-meditation that allows you to leave your CR (
current reality
) to project yourself into your DR (
desired reality
). Such is the lexicon of the perfect shifter. Just daydreaming? Close to self-hypnosis, shifting allows you to change reality. The objective of this inner journey being to find oneself at Hogwarts or in
Star Wars,
Twilight
, etc.
Coming from the United States, via TikTok where communities are multiplying (shiftinghouse has 35,000 subscribers, and shifting-related hashtags generate millions of views), the practice developed during the first confinement.
“When I made my first broomstick flight, says Emma, 17, I felt the wind in my hair.
It was too awesome.”
“If the feelings are very fine, it is because, upstream, for shifter, we write a precise scenario, with details on the place, the characters… The script facilitates the trance – that is to say the passage of the brain in alpha waves”, explains the hypnotherapist Kévin Finel.

Changing reality thanks to shifting
Advice from Julie Akasha, yoga teacher, youtuber (118,000 subscribers) and seasoned shifter: “Shifting is just a remastering of “dream yoga” or dream yoga – an ancestral technique used by Buddhist monks to continue to being awake at night. At the request of millennials, who are fond of it, I made several videos on this subject. I practice this lucid dream very often, out of spiritual curiosity, and also to do myself good. When it's time to sleep, I go into a self-hypnotic trance, I project myself into my dream destination, while repeating to myself: “I will remember this dream”. Sometimes I have conditioned myself to swim with dolphins, breathe underwater, travel to another planet, fly freely in the sky… In the morning, I wake up in great shape.”

To practice self-hypnosis, you don't need an elaborate script.
Lie in a “starfish” position (arms crossed, legs slightly apart) and focus on your breathing.
Second technique, that of the train: we count to one hundred, then we go down to the platform and we wake up in our “dreamed reality”.
Third technique, the favorite of teenagers, that of heartbeats: you program the sound effects on your mobile phone, and you fall asleep on the chest of the chosen one of your heart – Draco Malfoy, the bad boy from Harry Potter, arrives in first place among millennials.
You can also content yourself with projecting yourself into your favorite spot (small Corsican cove or thousand-year-old forest) and summoning all the senses (auditory, visual, olfactory, etc.) to build an imaginary world, which will condition our nocturnal dreams.
“Self-hypnosis, by facilitating the dialogue between conscious and unconscious, allows us to better regulate our emotions during the day,” insists Kévin Finel.
To become a pro, you still have to train… “You can practice making micropaths between the real and the imaginary, for three or four minutes, sitting at your desk, before a stressful meeting, for example.
Bonus: in a very short time, we recover energy like after a nap.

A long journey
Completely digitized, this program fits into our schedule at any time.
A new concept that has been attracting more and more since confinement.
"We were taken aback by the pandemic, all the retreats we had set up were canceled," says Léa Coutaye, founder of Yogascope, a travel agency specializing in yoga retreats in France and around the world.
“Instead, we organized “mini-retreats” live on social networks, for a day or a weekend.
Every four hours, we gave our participants an appointment for a yoga class, a talk or a holistic workshop.
Very quickly, there was incredible enthusiasm”, so much so that the format was deployed as an online wellness program.
