(ANSA-AFP) - YAOUNDE, 25 JAN - At least eight people, including a child, died in a crowd, formed for unclear reasons, at the entrance to the Yaoundé stadium, in Cameroon, before the match between the national team and the Comoros valid for the Africa Cup of Nations. Among the dead was also a child while a baby, trampled on by the crowd, was hospitalized.

The wounded are several dozen. This was specified in a preliminary report by the Ministry of Health.

"Eight deaths have been recorded," according to the report, including one child. A first report previously provided by state television reported "half a dozen dead and dozens injured".

According to the Ministry of Health, the crowd formed at the south entrance of the Olembé stadium.

The victims were "immediately transported" by ambulance but "the intense traffic on the road slowed the rescue", according to the report.

According to the Ministry of Health, even a newborn was trampled by the crowd.

The little boy, "immediately rescued and taken to the general hospital of Yaoundé" is in "clinically stable" condition.
