In North Rhine-Westphalia, a dog woke its owner - and possibly saved his life.
Leo, a four-year-old Dogo Canario, ran into the man's bedroom against his usual habit at around 10:25 p.m. and drew attention to himself and thus also to the fire in the garage next to the house in Borken, according to a police report.
Tens of thousands of euros in damage
When the man noticed the fire, the flames were already out of the garage, it said.
It took three fire engines to put out the fire.
Windows and shutters of a neighboring house were also damaged by the heat, the damage from the fire on Monday evening is estimated at 30,000 euros.
"If the dog hadn't come - you don't know," said a police spokesman.
The cause of the fire has not yet been determined.
