Peter Dinklage: Fighting Stereotypes

Since his role as Tyrion Lannister in »Game of Thrones«, Peter Dinklage has been known for not beating around the bush – as is currently the case with the upcoming remake of »Snow White« by the US media group Disney.
The 52-year-old, short actor attested to the hypocrisy of the film's makers in the WTF podcast with fellow actor Marc Maron.
It's hypocritical to advertise that on the one hand they're very proud to have a Latina actress cast for the role of Snow White - and on the other hand "they still do this fucking backwards story about seven dwarfs living in a cave".
Gal Gadot as Evil Queen
“What the hell?” he asked himself, he says – and whether, as an actor of short stature, he hadn't been loud enough so that such stereotypes no longer caught on.
However, he did not blame the »West Side Story« actress Rachel Zegler, who recently described herself as a »white Latina« and who is to take over the role of Snow White.
He wonders why Disney didn't pay attention.
Dinklage said he might have been in on the remake if the Grimm fairy tale had been given a progressive twist.
In addition to Zegler, Gal Gadot is also said to be in the film – in the role of the evil queen.
The flick, directed by Marc Webb, is set to be a reboot of the 1937 Disney animated classic.
According to the British "Guardian" in 2012, one should have already known that the remake of the fairy tale can sometimes be problematic: For "Snow White and the Huntsman", actors of average height had played the short stature, whose heads were then placed on small digital bodies on the computer .
An association of people of short stature in America protested, comparing it to "blackfacing," the phenomenon when white people paint black to represent black people, which is often found very offensive.
Exactly how director Webb intends to deal with these problems is unclear.
Apart from the main roles, little is known about the content so far - not even the question of the »seven dwarves«.
