Members of the epidemic treatment team this morning (Tuesday) approved the recommendation to vaccinate the entire population over the age of 18 with a fourth vaccine for corona.
In a discussion held this morning, the team members had to decide between two questions: whether to allow all those aged 18 and over to be vaccinated with a fourth vaccine or whether to allow only those aged 40 and over, and as stated decided that the vaccine will be given to the entire adult population.
The experts' recommendation will be forwarded to the Director General of the Ministry of Health, Prof. Nachman Ash, who will be required to approve it.

At a meeting of the epidemic treatment team on Sunday evening, data from the Ministry of Health were presented, according to which the fourth vaccine dose is twice as effective in preventing infection compared to those aged 60 and over who were vaccinated with three doses, and three times more effective in protecting against serious illness.
These are data from the Ministry of Health collected among about 400,000 of the fourth-dose vaccinated, which were compared to about 600,000 of the third-dose vaccinated.

As you may recall, a fourth vaccine dose is currently recommended for those aged 60 and over who have passed four months since receiving the third dose, as well as for medical staff.
During the epidemic team discussion two weeks ago, the experts' decision stated that anyone interested in getting a fourth vaccine could be allowed, but the director general of the Ministry of Health did not accept this recommendation and asked to wait for data to be collected on the effectiveness of the fourth dose.
