No wonder, because the production cost a whopping 38 million euros – just for the first two seasons.
But the co-production between ARD and Sky has paid off.
Now the
4th season of "Babylon Berlin"
is already in the can .
Soon Volker Bruch goes back to hunting criminals as Commissioner Gereon Rath.
The actor caused a stir in the corona pandemic with the "#make everything tight" campaign and came close to a lateral thinker party *.

At the end of the 3rd season of "Babylon Berlin" the viewers experienced the New York stock market crash, which was to spread all over the world.

In the 4th season of "Babylon Berlin" (read our review of Yvan Goll's 1920s novel "Sodom und Berlin" here) there is a jump in time. The
new season is based on the novel "Goldstein" by Volker Kutscher,
which tells of the "political and social situation in Berlin from the winter of 1930/31 to the Stennes putsch in April of the same year", as the
Film- und Medienstiftung NRW put
it in its press release announced in February. With that, we skip a good year and a half and find ourselves in the middle of the great global economic crisis. The confrontations between left and right parties are becoming more extreme and violent.
Meanwhile,
Gereon Rath has to shadow the Jewish US gangster Abraham Goldstein,
who has traveled to Germany from the USA.
What initially looks like a normal and rather boring assignment quickly turns into an intriguing and thrilling affair.
The 4th season of "Babylon Berlin" finally culminates in the Stennes Putsch, an internal party dispute within the National Socialists.
How far the screenwriters and the three directors stick to the original novel remains questionable.

When does the 4th season of "Babylon Berlin" start?
Due to the corona pandemic and the complex production, filming had to be paused and postponed.
But patience is always required for the "Babylon Berlin" fans anyway.
There was a two-year wait between the second and third seasons.
The
4th season of "Babylon Berlin" was shot between March and September 2021
in the German capital *, as the
dpa
reports.
An exact start date has not yet been officially announced, but we can look forward to new episodes of the successful series in spring 2022.
The 4th season can first be seen on the pay channel Sky, months later "Das Erste" then shows the new episodes on free TV.
