Aldi – The FFP2 mask requirement causes astonishment on Facebook.

A customer accuses the discount giant of unequal treatment and demands a change.

The Corona regulations have been constantly changing since the beginning of the pandemic.

The different rules in different federal states also make things difficult for people again and again.

In Bavaria, for example, other measures to contain the corona virus * apply than in Baden-Württemberg *, in Rhineland-Palatinate * other conditions than in Saarland.

The retail trade, whose 2G obligation has been overturned in some federal states*, as well as supermarkets and discounters are also struggling with the constant changes.

The latest excitement topic on Facebook for Aldi Süd: The FFP2 mask requirement.

A customer has accused the discount giant of unequal treatment.

Aldi Süd: Customer complains about FFP2 mask requirement - that's the reason

The customer would like Aldi* Süd to “dispose of these pointless FFP2 mask signs”.

The reason for the user's request, which was clearly requested on Facebook, becomes clear at the beginning of the post: "How can it be that you hang up a sign on the entrance doors of your shops, on which you demand that customers wear an FFP2 mask, but your employees walk around the store with their normal surgical masks.”

As an alternative to taking down the sign, the discounter should instruct its employees to also wear such a mask.

Nevertheless, Mike W. made it clear in his post on Tuesday evening that he was “not a friend of the mask requirement” and wrote to Aldi Süd that it “would be best for everyone if you, as a role model and pioneer, introduced this nonsensical mask requirement in your stores leave out completely".

According to Mike W., everyone knows that "these masks do more harm than help".

Oops, and how does Aldi Süd react to the post?

This is how Aldi Süd responds to the mask requirement discussion

The discounter giant answers in the form of community manager Irek, who reacts calmly as usual.

"The mask requirement is a regulation that is specified by the countries and that we are very happy to implement in our branches," Aldi Süd explains the regulation.

Then the discounter becomes clear and responds to the user’s assumption: “As you have been able to find out from reputable sources in the last two years, it is a small measure that you can use to protect yourself and others. "

With regard to the different implementation of customers and employees, the company also gives a clear answer: “According to the regulations of the federal states, the obligation to wear an FFP2 or similar mask usually applies to customers.

Employees are exempt from this and it is sufficient if they wear surgical masks.

Mask requirement in the supermarket: customers jump to the side of Aldi Süd

The fact that customers and employees are allowed to wear different masks is explained by other Facebook users who jump to the side of Aldi Süd in this discussion. Almost annoyed, Dorothee K. replies to the Aldi customer's post: "Another one." Then she writes that with FFP2 masks "every 70 at the latest 120 minutes" a 30-minute break must be taken, which the Occupational Health and Safety Act regulates would. The user: "It makes a difference whether you wear the mask for 15 minutes to go shopping or eight hours." Experts have also pointed out that FFP2 masks must not be worn continuously*.

Patrick L. still corrects the time that Dorothee K. gave and writes that it can be a maximum of 75 minutes – and further: “It is regulated by the DGUV and you don’t have to take a break from work, you have to take off your mask for 30 minutes .” Since nobody in the supermarket and also at Aldi Süd can go about their work without a mask, that would be a half-hour break, which is why surgical masks can be worn.

Either way, Aldi Süd, who already had to explain why customers were kicked out because of the wrong mask*, and the two eager users quickly clarified that the sign for FFP2 mask requirements at Aldi will probably stick.
