Despite the Microsoft acquisition, Activision will continue to release Call of Duty on the PlayStation - but only the next three parts.

Will "CoD" be an Xbox exclusive afterwards?

2022 started with a big bang in the gaming industry: Microsoft recently announced the acquisition of Activision Blizzard* with all associated studios.

The deal is expected to close next year.

It didn't take long for concerns about the exclusive rights to many popular titles to surface.

Players are wondering whether, for example, "Call of Duty" will sooner or later only be available on Microsoft's gaming platforms - i.e. on Xbox and Windows PC.

But now there is a first all-clear.

According to

Bloomberg

, Activision had already committed to releasing the next Call of Duty games on all platforms, including the PlayStation, even before the announcement of the Microsoft acquisition*. This affects the parts that are scheduled for release in 2022, 2023 and 2024, including "

Call of Duty: Warzone 2

". How Microsoft and Activision will then proceed with the popular shooter franchise is not clear at the moment.

A major point of criticism for the release of the Xbox Series X/S was the lack of strong exclusive titles for the console.

Competitor Sony had released strong games such as "God of War", "Horizon Zero Dawn" or "Spider-Man" for the PlayStation in recent years.

However, Microsoft has now made provisions for the future with acquisitions of Activision Blizzard and before that Bethesda.

.

Should Microsoft decide to offer established series like "Call of Duty" exclusively, it would definitely be a big blow for Sony and all PlayStation users.
