Whether you are interested in a specialist seminar or a special yoga course: there are many ways in which educational leave can be designed.

How many days you ultimately get for the training period depends on the federal state.
"That's why it's important to take a close look in advance at what applies in the area in which you work," says Till Bender, spokesman for the legal protection department of the German Trade Union Confederation (DGB).
In this article we will tell you which federal states approve educational leave and what options you have.
Educational leave: what are the options?
The offer for educational leave is huge. First of all, those interested should ask themselves
what added value
they want to derive from the educational leave. It doesn't matter whether you want to
benefit from it privately or professionally
. It is only important that the
course or seminar is certified
, only then will the measure be recognized as educational leave. During this time, your employer will continue to pay you the regular salary*. As an employee, you pay the costs for the course yourself – but you can deduct the expenses from your taxes.
Normally
five days per year or ten days per two years
are allowed.
So that the application can be processed in good time, you should submit it to your employer at least four weeks before the start of the training period - but you should also check the deadlines in your federal state.
