Experts warn: Eliminating school isolation now - pouring oil on the fire Israel today

2022-01-26T13:57:40.033Z

The decision to end the isolation outline in the education system is of great concern among senior medical institutions in Israel Coronavirus outbreak"

Following the government's decision to stop the isolation scheme in the education system, which is due to take effect starting tomorrow (Thursday), experts warn that the move could have an impact on the extent of morbidity among children in Israel - which will affect the entire public.

"Exposure just without the vaccine is the exposure of all children in the country to infection, and this will inevitably have an effect on the disease - on all the consequences of such an increase," warns one of the experts in a conversation with Israel Today.

AMN: There are increasing reports of PIMS in children worldwide

At the height of the omicron wave, the education system is preparing to implement the decision to abolish school isolation starting tomorrow.

This is despite the recommendation of the Intelligence Research Division yesterday to consider postponing the move until the current wave subsides.

"It is estimated that increasing contacts within schools will increase morbidity in these age groups," the report said.

"We are at the peak of the wave, with the highest probability of infection. Therefore, it is recommended that the population at risk and the elderly avoid unnecessary contact until the wave subsides, which is expected soon."

The report noted that worldwide reports of the onset of PIMS, a multidisciplinary infection in children, have increased following the spread of the omicron strain. "The incidence of new cases of the syndrome in children is higher than previously observed. PIMS cases in children after coronary heart disease with the omicron strain have also been reported in India."

Experts added in the report that there are “new neurological phenomena in children.

In the United States and South Africa, new seizures have been reported with increasing frequency in children infected with omicron, described as abnormal and unfamiliar in nature so far (especially in relation to children's age). "(About two weeks after recovery), which included symptoms such as headaches, disturbances in balance, convulsions, weakness and confusion. It is clear from the report that in the vast majority of cases these are unvaccinated children."

This remark by the National Security Agency raises concerns regarding the possibility that similar cases will be discovered in Israel as well. It is now worthwhile to cancel the insulation layout or wait for the omission of the omicron to drop.

Dr. Alex Guri, a pediatrician at Kaplan Hospital and an infectious disease consultant, is reluctant to lower isolations without a comprehensive complementary course of childhood vaccination. But it is not possible just now to eliminate all isolation and expose all children in Israel to the virus without a complementary course of mass vaccination of children.

Just exposure without the vaccine is the exposure of all children in the country to infection, and this will inevitably have an effect on the disease - on all the consequences of such an increase.

I am in favor of removing the isolations for vaccinated children and support an information and vaccination campaign, but not just gambling and just opening up. "

"Release Now - Big Bet and Frivolity"

Prof. Ronit Calderon-Margalit of the School of Public Health at the Hebrew University calls for the postponement of the outline to cancel the isolations for a week or two.

"In principle, I am in favor of eliminating isolation," says Prof. Calderon-Margalit.

"It is proper and right, and routine and framework are important for children. But I think at the moment it is a mistake. This is the wrong time to cancel the isolations. The move should be postponed for a week or two. We are at the peak of the wave and opening "All the children and through them all - the parents and the adults - to the peak of the corona outbreak. The move will intensify the wave and cause more illness. There is no point in doing it now.

Prof. Dror Mevorach, director of the corona department at Hadassah Hospital, also tells Israel Today that eliminating isolation at this stage is not a good idea.

"Taking such a risk right now, when we are at the height of the wave, is not true, it is a big gamble and frivolity. "Wait for calm and only then take action. It is not right at the moment to do so, it will be like pouring oil on the fire."
