2022-01-26T12:33:52.357Z

Jean Castex made this announcement on Tuesday to compensate for the increase in fuel prices. Who is concerned ? How to do ? Le Figaro takes stock.

Months pass and fuel prices continue to reach peaks, particularly penalizing workers who increase their journeys on the roads.

To respond to their concern, Jean Castex announced on Tuesday a 10% increase in the mileage allowance.

This allows households declaring their business expenses to deduct from their taxes part of the expenses related to the use of a personal vehicle during a business trip.

Le Figaro

takes stock of this new government gesture.

Who is concerned ?

Unlike the voluntarily broad inflation allowance to reach a maximum of French people (38 million in total), this new measure must above all benefit those "

for whom the vehicle is a means of work or job search

", indicated the Prime Minister.

In other words, those who waive the flat-rate deduction of 10% (automatically subtracted from the salary) to opt for the deduction of actual costs.

This measure aims to touch "

the heart of the middle class

", according to Matignon, that is to say, income deciles 4 to 7 who work and do not necessarily affect the inflation allowance.

In total, it will concern "

2.5 million households who pay tax and who have declared actual costs

", according to the Ministry of the Economy, which represents roughly

"400 million euros in reduction of 'tax for the persons concerned'

.

All the measures taken by the executive to protect the French people from soaring energy and fuel prices ("

tariff shield

" on gas and electricity, exceptional energy check, inflation compensation and increase in the scale of L'

more than 15 billion euros provided by the French State,

” says Matignon.

Untaxed workers, as well as job seekers, are therefore excluded from the scheme announced by the Prime Minister.

However, they benefited from the inflation allowance of 100 euros and the exceptional energy check of 100 euros, justifies Bercy.

How much will this bring in for the French people concerned?

The mileage allowance depends partly on the type of vehicle: car, two-wheeler with an engine capacity of less than 50 cm3, motorcycle.

In the case of the car and the motorcycle, the calculation is made according to a scale which takes into account two factors: the number of kilometers traveled on a professional basis and the fiscal power of the vehicle (the number of horses).

In the case of two-wheelers, only the distance is taken into account.

The scale, which changes every year, is disseminated by decree in February, the last having been on February 15, 2021.

Electric vehicles also fall within the scope of the mileage allowance.

The amount of travel expenses concerning them is currently increased by 20%.

Will they also see their scale increased?

Nothing is decided at this stage, we say on the side of Bercy.

It is therefore difficult to say precisely how much this measure will bring in since its calculation is done on a case-by-case basis.

But according to the Ministry of the Economy, this 10% increase in the scale would allow each person who uses the mileage allowance to make an average gain of 150 euros on their tax form.

The new scale has not yet been published on the website of the Ministry of the Economy.

But it is easy to calculate your 2022 mileage allowance: just add 10% to the 2021 calculation scale.

In addition,

“this revaluation is also intended to serve as a reference and therefore potentially to affect the mileage allowances directly paid by employers to their employees who use their personal vehicle”

, assured Jean Castex before the deputies, Tuesday.

From when ?

The calculation of the mileage allowance increased by 10% will be done, for the French people concerned, at the time of their declaration of income for 2021, that is to say from April 2022.
