This was

by Nando Pagnoncelli, president of Ipsos, who carried out, in collaboration with the Luiss Business School, a sectoral survey that involved 300 companies engaged in the distribution of the game among operators, bars, tobacconists, betting shops, game rooms and betting rooms , within the Observatory on regulated markets.

"The conviction present in 70% of the population and 79% of exhibitors" is "that it is not easy to intercept and punish illegal phenomena, which are also socially tolerated", continues Pagnoncelli. According to which, this situation "weakens the capacity of the distribution network of legal gaming, highlighting the weaknesses that should be taken into account in the future".

The survey, presented in the Sala Zuccari of Palazzo Giustiniani, highlights how the gaming sector in the perception of exhibitors has been "heavily" affected by the effects of the pandemic: only 35% say they are satisfied with the performance of their business, 1 in 6 merchants had to reduce staff (17%), and only 3% increased it. With the repercussions of this state of affairs that "could also negatively reverberate on the territory with the decrease in points of sale and the proliferation of illegal activities".

The goal of the new chapter of the gaming industry project is to provide a model for understanding the evolution of the gaming industry, especially in the post-pandemic, and " combat forms of illegality to protect consumers and businesses ".

"A population of consumers who increasingly consider gaming as a 'normal', 'necessary' good, therefore part of their free time, therefore unavoidable from the consumer basket".

This is the photograph of the typical player elaborated on the basis of an econometric model developed by the Luiss Business School, thanks to data provided by the Customs and Monopoly Agency and by Istat. The document - presented today together with the Ipsos investigation. Raffaele Oriani, scientific referent of the research project and associate Dean of the Luiss Business School - affirms that "to combat the expansion of illegal gaming it is necessary to ensure careful regulation, in particular to the behavior of players and technological developments".

"The new chapter of the project on the gaming sector, was carried out in collaboration with Luiss Business School and Ipsos, as part of the Observatory on regulated markets, which, in the wake of the first report published in July 2021, intends to return to operators in the sector and policy makers, data also useful for tackling illegal gambling ", he explains.

The study also highlights "how the value of the collection of appliances (AWP and VLT) on recreational spending has decreased following Covid-19" and "how the value of collection on recreational spending is greater in the South than in other geographical areas" .

Pittella, support the legal activities against the mafias

"In 2020, all types of gaming recorded a sharp reduction compared to the previous year and this hid a shift towards the world of illegal gaming. This highlighted the importance of supporting legal activities in order not to leave room for the world of mafias. ". The senator of the Democratic Party Gianni Pittella said this during the conference on the 'gaming market' at Palazzo Giustiniani. "The system of rules should be updated, adapted to the times and to technological evolution," he adds. "The future of the" gaming "sector is dramatically aggravated by the voiceless guilt of the legislator who continues to treat the sector as irremediably affected by a congenital plague", said the parliamentarian. We need to "give certainty" to the sector, "the consolidated act is a need for rationality "," the reorganization is so necessary because it is a prelude to the renewal of concessions ", he argues.

Livia Pomodoro, repression risks fueling illegality

"The analysis is characterized by a strong interdisciplinary content", this "made possible an organic and original mapping of the dynamics of the sector" which "confirmed" that "legal gambling in our country is an integral part of habits expenditure of individuals. Moral observations, attempts to repress gambling are completely unproductive "and" risk only fueling illegal gambling ".

This was stated by the jurist Livia Pomodoro, president of the Advisory Board of the project on the gaming sector, during the conference at Palazzo Giustiniani during which two integrated surveys on the sector were presented.
