At least eight inmates have been killed and seven others injured in fighting at a Mexican prison.

This happened on Tuesday morning (local time) in two dormitories in a detention center in the western Mexican city of Colima, according to the police of the state of the same name.

The security forces have since regained control of the prison.

They found a firearm and several stabbing weapons in the dormitories.

There was no information about the background to the fighting.

Riots and riots are common in overcrowded Latin American prisons, where dangerous gang members are often held.

The puzzling case of a dead baby discovered in a dumpster at a detention center in the state of Puebla recently made headlines in Mexico.

According to investigators, the body of the boy, who died of an infection when he was about three months old, was unearthed in a cemetery in Mexico City, more than 100 kilometers away.

The background is still unclear.

According to media reports, it was initially speculated that drugs could have been smuggled into the prison during a fake family visit in the baby's body - who died on January 5 of a stomach ailment.

The prosecutor emphasized that the body had a scar from an operation, but that all organs were in place.

The child's parents were identified and questioned.

The body was discovered on January 10th.
