Migrants: Canaries, yesterday's shipwreck 42 miles from Lanzarote

The sinking of a rubber dinghy with migrants on board last night on the route to the Canary Islands occurred at a distance of about 36 miles north of Tarfaya (Morocco) and 42 miles south-east of Arrecife, a town on the Spanish island of Lanzarote. (HANDLE)


(ANSA) - MADRID, JANUARY 26 - The sinking of a rubber dinghy with migrants on board which took place last night on the route to the Canary Islands occurred at a distance of about 36 miles north of Tarfaya (Morocco) and 42 miles south-east of Arrecife , a town on the Spanish island of Lanzarote.

The maritime emergency service of the Iberian country reported this to ANSA.

The nine survivors were rescued around 11pm last night, marine rescue sources add.

A few hours earlier, the NGO Caminando Fronteras had received a request for help from this dinghy in difficulty.


    Some of the survivors reported to the Spanish authorities that there were 18 other people on board with them, of whom they would have lost track at sea: the delegation of the Iberian government in the Canary Islands reports to ANSA.
