Your garden – your kingdom?
Not exactly.
There are plants whose cultivation is punishable by law.
It's not just about marijuana.
In most cases you are completely free to decide which plants should decorate your garden.
However, there is one big exception:
plants, which are punishable
.
You can find out here which plants are involved and what the penalties are if you cultivate them illegally.
Can you plant cannabis?
Marijuana is one of the punishable plants in Germany
The best-known of the prohibited plants in Germany is the
cannabis
plant .
Only in exceptional cases - for example as a farmer with
special
permits
- are you allowed to plant cannabis, also known as hemp.
The dried flowers of the cannabis plant are called marijuana and contain the intoxicant THC.
This is the reason for the ban.
The Narcotics Act prohibits the cultivation of cannabis.
If you break the law, you could be fined or imprisoned for up to five years.

therapy .
Even if you think the plants are just beautiful, the plant is illegal for everyone else, whether you intend to consume the buds or not.
This has recently become fatal for a senior citizen from Günzburg.
Punishable plant: Opium poppies may not be grown without a permit
Cannabis is not the only plant that is banned in Germany due to its narcotic nature and may not be cultivated.
Opium is obtained from opium poppies
.
Also
heroin
can be produced synthetically with Papaver somniferum, which is the Latin name of the punishable plant.
However, because these substances are prohibited, the Narcotics Act also regulates the cultivation of the pretty flower and stipulates that if you want to cultivate opium poppies, you need a permit from the Federal Institute for Drugs and Medical Devices.
If you are caught without a permit, you also face heavy fines and up to five years in prison.
While this is not very likely for individual plants, you should not rely on it.
Opium poppies are often found in gardens or along streets*.
No wonder: the plants are easy to confuse with other – permitted – poppy varieties.
