The first click day for the entry of foreign workers will start tomorrow, which will involve the hiring of non-seasonal and self-employed workers, while on Tuesday 1 February 2022 it will be the turn of seasonal workers.
This was announced by Coldiretti, underlining that the 2022 flows decree concerns a total of almost 70,000 foreign workers, mostly absorbed by agriculture.
The possibility of entry is important to save crops and guarantee food supply, in a sector that is still heavily dependent on the contribution of foreign workers, despite the growing interest among Italians. With the full resumption of agricultural activities, according to Coldiretti, it is easy to foresee the accentuation of the lack of necessary workers in the countryside at a time when with the pandemic from Covid a scenario of uncertainty, hoarding and speculation has opened up that pushes the race to essential goods such as energy and food.
In this context, Coldiretti underlines, the opening of borders to foreigners risks being thwarted by the fact that many laborers from non-EU countries cannot work as they are vaccinated with Russian Sputnik serum or Chinese Sinovac serum not recognized in Italy and in Europe.
A limit that must be exceeded, also considering the fact that one out of four agricultural products is harvested in Italy by foreign hands that have regularly found employment in agriculture.
