A worn white hat and a watercolor by Melania Trump on paper and as a digital version in the form of a so-called NFT: An online auction started two weeks ago for this “Head of State Collection” by Melania Trump.
Melania Trump herself posted a starting bid of $250,000 for the set.
Now the auction is over - and the former first lady should not be satisfied: only five bidders brought the price to around $ 170,000.
She wore the auctioned hat during a state visit by French President Emmanuel Macron.
Bids on the Solana site could only be made in the SOL cryptocurrency.
According to the New York Times, the fact that Melania Trump's belongings fell far short of her expectations is not only due to a lack of interest in her person.
At the beginning of the auction, a SOL would have been worth $170 - at the end it was only $95.
The entire crypto market has repeatedly experienced massive price fluctuations, and digital currencies such as Bitcoin have lost massively in value in recent weeks.
The malice that Melania Trump has to endure because of the auction is not based solely on the few bidders.
On her own website, she announced that "a portion of the proceeds" would give foster children access to science and technology.
She doesn't say what happens to the rest of the money.
The auction wasn't the former First Lady's first of its kind.
Back in December, she auctioned a watercolor of her eyes entitled »Melania's Vision« as a Non-Fungible Token (NFT).
