Fascinating profession, but demand is low.

How Much Money Does an Architect Make?

According to industry sources, a beginning architect will earn NIS 9,000-8,000 a month, an architect with 2-5 years of experience will already earn NIS 9,000-12,000 a month, while an architect with a master's degree and 5-10 years of experience - NIS 15,000-16,000, when of course there are differences Between the salary an architect will receive in the center and the salary he will receive in the periphery, where salaries are lower.

So what has happened in the last year or two?

Architect Uri Rotem of Orbach Halevi Architects explains: "We have seen a change and trend in the last year and a half. There is a shortage of architects and it is clearly felt in our daily lives. There are difficulties in recruiting staff in engineering and architecture. New employee, today it is a matter of a few months until they manage to recruit and the situation is even more serious outside of Tel Aviv.

We work in a shortage of manpower, in an area that has flourished greatly in the last year and a half, there is more work than employees.

If we could absorb five people today, we would do it right away. "

Drip of resume.

"As a firm of architects we find ourselves today investing much more in the surrounding conditions in order to recruit manpower"

Rotem adds: "We hear in the field about the movement of young architects to other fields and their escape to high-tech, and even cases where architecture students do not intend to enter the profession at all but turn directly to other fields, since there is an interface in the architect's knowledge." It's definitely winking at an architect who's just finished his degree.

" There is difficulty in recruiting.

As an architectural firm we find ourselves today investing much more in the surrounding conditions in order to recruit manpower, if once the reasons for working in architecture were mission, environmental impact, creation, today we increasingly see that conditions and envelope are first and therefore naturally align with other areas ".

Constant search.

Tali Darel from v5 Architects adds: "There is currently a shortage of planners in the field of construction in Israel, especially architects. The construction boom is large and the number of professionals involved in planning and execution is limited.

Although there are those who use planning services provided in other countries, this service is partial because it is necessary to "convert" the plans and adapt them to Israeli standards.

"With us, a large firm that coaches young architects, the work is diverse and we maintain a pleasant atmosphere and brotherhood among the employees and therefore the situation is relatively better, but we are also in a state of constant search for new employees."

Not rewarding.

"It's very difficult to get to the top"

"In architecture, reaching the peak of a very old career, iconic buildings in the world are those of architects aged 80 plus"

According to Barbara Berzin, owner of the Barbara Berzin Interior Design School, the growing shortage of architects stems from a variety of reasons: "First of all, the matter of reward.

An architect studies for 5 years, 3 years he does an internship and only after 10 years can reach any peak.

This is a profession that is not culturally and financially valued in Israel.

The profession of architecture is one that you mature into and also requires a lot of experience when there are a lot of mistakes along the way.

In architecture reaching the peak of a very old career, iconic buildings in the world are of architects aged 80 plus.

Another reason - mega projects in architecture are only accepted by associates and it is very difficult to get to the top. "

In other areas there is a shift, and Berzin says that the trend is positive: "There is a shortage of excellent designers, which is true in every profession. "I also feel that the Corona has brought more public awareness to the need for an interior designer, the awareness is that the house is important not to be seen from a magazine but in its functionality and especially in the design. And this is where the designer comes in."
