(ANSA) - ROME, JANUARY 27 - "The Munich report also attributes responsibility and I am ready to take responsibility". Cardinal Reinhard Marx said this at a press conference, speaking of the report on pedophilia in his archdiocese, which accused him of "erroneous behavior" in two cases. But Marx also said: "I am still ready to carry out my service if this is useful in the next steps for a reliable elaboration, a stronger dedication to alleviating abuses and for a reform of the Church".
The Munich report represents "a profound break for the archdiocese of Munich and a break even beyond this".
This was stated by Cardinal Reinhard Marx, taking a stand on the Munich report on pedophile abuses of priests from 1945 to 2019, which also accuses Marx of "wrong behavior" in the management of two cases.
The cardinal underlined that "the church had become a place of disaster, a place of fear and not of consolation".
Those who deny that there is a need for structural reform "did not understand the scale of the challenge," he added.
"My biggest fault was that of neglecting the victims of abuse, this is unforgivable."
This was stated by cardinal Reinhard Marx, in Munich, taking a stand on the report on pedophilia in the archdiocese, which he judges to be guilty of mismanagement in two cases.
"I should have tried harder," he added, recognizing a "moral responsibility".
The cardinal then asked the victims "sorry".
Marx, who last year had presented his resignations, rejected by the Pope, reiterated: "I am not entrusted with the position".
