Music is secondary when it comes to climate justice.
Rihanna has donated 15 million dollars to eighteen associations, established in the United States and the Caribbean.
The initiative is part of a partnership with the charity foundation Clara Lionel, created by the singer, and #StartSmall, philanthropic operation of the co-founder of Twitter, Jack Dorsey, as reported by the Associated Press
.

“Climate disasters, which are increasing in frequency and intensity, do not have the same impact on all communities, including communities of color and island nations, who face the brunt of climate change,”
said Rihanna, native of the island of Barbados, in a press release.

These grants support entities focused on and led by women, youth, black, indigenous, people of color and LGBTQIA + communities,"
she said from her Instagram account.

Movement for Black Lives
are among the associations concerned.
Rihanna set up the Clara Lionel Foundation, named in honor of her grandparents, Clara and Lionel Braithwaite, in 2012. The organization revolves around two axes: climate resilience and justice.
In March 2020, the singer was already donating $5 million to American food banks as well as to various organizations around the world -Partners In Health, Direct Relief, Feeding America or the WHO-, at a time when the pandemic was beginning to gain traction.
At the head of her own brand of cosmetics and lingerie, Rihanna became the richest musician in the world in 2021 with a fortune estimated at 1.7 billion dollars, according to
Forbes magazine.
