Our 2022 retirement rankings: the temptation of very small towns

EXCLUSIVE - Le Figaro lists its general list of cities in which to retire. Last of our four parts: the municipalities of less than 10,000 inhabitants with a Top 10 which even contains 2 whose population is less than 1000 people.


For this latest version of our 2022 list of cities in which to retire, we have focused on municipalities with fewer than 10,000 inhabitants.

These villages and towns of modest size had already had the honors of our general classification with no less than 6 representatives in the Top 10. This magnifying glass therefore makes it possible to discover a wider selection for those who think that happiness is rather in the towns and villages.

Remember that according to a very recent study by INSEE, no less than one in eight retirements results in a change of residence.

And the study published on January 26 shows that these movements are mainly made by leaving large urban areas to opt for smaller towns, often located by the sea or in the Massif Central.
