In New Delhi, several men are believed to have raped a 21-year-old woman.
After the rapes, they are said to have paraded and humiliated the mother of a two-year-old child on a street.
Eleven suspects were arrested in connection with the crime, the Indian police said on Friday.
Several women are among the accused.
The alleged gang rape in the Shahdara district was preceded by a neighborhood dispute, R. Sathiyasundaram of the New Delhi police told AFP.
All those arrested, including two minors, belong to the same family.
According to the victim, she was abducted by members of that family and then raped by several men and minors while women from the family goaded the perpetrators.
India Today also reported on the case.
A young woman whose face had been blackened in ink and whose hair had been cut off was seen in videos posted on online networks, the authenticity of which has not yet been verified.
She is pushed back and forth by a crowd, yelled at and beaten with sticks.
The videos would now be evaluated to identify and arrest other participants, the police announced.
The victim receives psychological support.
According to media reports, the gang rape was an act of revenge.
Accordingly, a 16-year-old had committed suicide after the young woman had rejected his advances.
Horrific crimes against women in India continue to cause dismay.
After the death of a student in a gang rape in New Delhi in 2012, penalties for rape and gang rape were tightened in the country.
The Indian police are accused of not doing enough to stop such acts and of playing down violence against women.
