Aldi Süd – After a Facebook post that provides information about the implementation of more animal welfare, users are up in arms.

They accuse the discount giant of greed and show solidarity with the farmers.

It has been clear for a few weeks that Aldi Süd and other discounters and supermarkets are changing their range to ensure better animal welfare and animal husbandry. For example, Aldi introduced the 5D rule for meat*. At the beginning of the year, a change in the sale of eggs* was prescribed by law. The fact that the discounter giant has been advertising for months that it is the first grocer to want to abolish the killing of chicks has now also caused a stir and criticism. It was a marketing gimmick*, foodwatch complained.

Now Aldi* has a new problem.

On Facebook, the discounter is accused of only taking care of animal welfare out of greed for profit and that the topic is actually worth nothing to him.

According to the allegations, one industry emerged as a blatant loser from history.

But: How did the little shitstorm come about?

And what is actually the point of criticism?

HEIDELBERG24* summarizes.

Aldi Süd: This Facebook post on animal welfare is causing criticism

Aldi Süd posted a post on Facebook about measures to improve animal husbandry.

In a short video that graphically shows all the measures again, Aldi Süd writes: “The change in attitude is our promise for more animal welfare.

For an animal-friendly tomorrow, we are taking consistent measures for our meat, milk and shell egg range.”

With this post on Facebook, Aldi Süd causes a stir and receives criticism.

It is also said that the project has already achieved success.

According to Aldi Süd, 25 percent of "our milk is obtained from husbandry types 3 & 4" - even now!

In terms of sales of private label drinking milk.

Branded items are excluded, they say.

Then the discounter giant refers to the 24-second video and a link for more information.

Over 36,000 people have already seen the post (as of Thursday, 10 a.m.).

But it is not well received everywhere, because some users are up in arms about the post.

Aldi Süd: That's what angry Facebook users say about animal welfare advertising

The problem of the users: The farmers are forgotten.

Benedikt H. writes: “The farmers have the work and you have the profit.

That's how it's always been, and that's how it will always be.

Or how about your cheap DNA?” Markus J. puts it a little more diplomatically, who still hopes that Aldi Süd doesn't forget the farmers with the nice advertising.

The user: "Because more effort should also be rewarded.

But I lack the faith with Aldi and Co.”

Patrick B. gets drastic and complains about the discounter.

According to the Facebook user, the only people who want the cattle to do well are the farmers and not "their cutthroat".

Rainer S. accuses Aldi Süd of first destroying everything and now playing the "savior of the world".

User Piotre M. asks the group directly: And what is the food retailer willing to give the farmers from its exorbitant margin?”

Aldi Süd answers user questions and explains the relationship with farmers

Aldi Süd's community management responded that the higher maintenance costs for farmers also affect the selling price of the milk*.

"With the early announcement that we are switching our own brand range to the higher husbandry forms 3 and 4, we are enabling a secure sales channel for animal welfare goods and are giving the market planning security," said Aldi Süd in a statement.

But Aldi also points out that it does not have any direct business relationships with farmers, but rather goes through suppliers and works together with them on solutions, “so that farmers can also benefit from the long-term contracts.” (tobi) *
