Save money when filling up?

In view of the currently sharp rise in fuel prices, it is worthwhile for drivers to follow a few tips.

Kassel – Gasoline prices in Germany are rising and reaching for the tap is becoming more and more expensive.

This is partly due to rising crude oil prices and the energy tax.

Commuters are particularly dependent on their vehicles and have to dig deep into their wallets to fill up regularly.

Since the FDP, as part of a possible traffic light coalition*, is calling for CO2 emissions trading to be extended to the entire transport sector, the price of fuel could continue to rise in the coming months.

With a few simple tips, however, you will soon be able to save a lot when filling up.

Refueling: save money with various apps

As the Rheinische Post reports, one should compare the petrol prices of the various providers.

Although these are more or less based on each other in terms of price, the price varies from gas station to gas station.

Although it usually only differs by a few cents, extrapolated to the total amount, several euros can be saved.

The following apps can be used to get a better overview of the current fuel prices in the area:

  • "Clever refueling" for iOS and Android.

  • “ADAC fuel prices” for iOS and Android.

  • “Refuel more” for iOS and Android.

On the other hand, attention should also be paid to the brand of the gas station.

Independent gas stations are usually particularly cheap compared to large chains such as Shell, Esso or Aral and are therefore a valuable tip.

As a study by the General German Automobile Club (ADAC) shows, the Jet is on average around six cents per liter cheaper than other chains.

Tips for cheaper refueling - the time and place of the gas station are important

In addition, consumers should pay attention to the time when they visit the petrol station.

Most start the day with high prices, which they slowly lower towards the evening.

As a rule, fuel is cheapest between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. and between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Even before an upcoming trip by car, drivers should think about when and where they can refuel their vehicle.

In principle, it is advisable to stop for fuel in Germany, as fuel prices in neighboring countries are often more expensive.

According to ADAC, for example, a liter of diesel costs around ten cents more in the Netherlands and a liter of premium around three cents more than in Germany.

In the Czech Republic, however, fuel sometimes costs 44 cents less, which is why many German citizens are currently making a trip to the neighboring country.

Currently, the prices for refueling* differ significantly from place to place - an expert explains why this is the case.

However, you should avoid filling up at motorway service stations.

The prices there are generally much more expensive than in cities or on country roads.

As the ADAC informs, an Agip gas station on the A5 motorway asked for a whole 30 cents more per liter in August this year.

It is therefore always advisable to find out about possible gas stations and their fuel costs before you start your journey.

Another tip: when buying a car you can pay attention to a few points in order to be able to save fuel.

With simple tips you can really save money when filling up.

Don't just save money when refueling - These tips ensure lower fuel consumption

Saving a small amount on fuel is useful, but ultimately only half the battle.

Because the right tires also play a role in fuel consumption.

As reported by rtl.de, fuel savings of up to 5 percent can be achieved if the tire pressure is correct.

Because less rolling resistance also means lower fuel consumption.

If the tire pressure is just a tad too high, this can in turn increase fuel consumption.

An additional tip is to remove unnecessary weight in and out of the car.

Unused roof structures and unnecessary stuff in the trunk are nothing but ballast in the long run.

The more weight you carry, the more petrol or diesel the vehicle consumes.

Drivers should also always drive with foresight and at low speeds, for example by shifting up as early as possible.

With automatic transmissions, the selectable eco mode ensures shorter shift intervals and lower speeds, reports rtl.de.

Finally, the air conditioning should also be used sparingly, as it also requires fuel and consumes a lot of energy.
