(ANSA) - ROME, FEBRUARY 07 - Margarita Lozano, a Spanish actress who played various roles in numerous Italian films starting from the 1960s in films by Italian directors, from Sergio Leone to Paolo Virzì, died at the age of 91.
The news agency Efe and other Spanish media report it, stating that the artist died during the night in Puntas de Calnegre (Murcia), where she lived for a long time.
Daughter of a soldier destined for the Spanish protectorate in Morocco, the interpreter moved to Madrid at 19: it was there that she approached the world of acting.
She began her career in film in the 1950s and at the beginning of the next decade, she worked with Spanish director Luis Buñuel on the film Viridiana (1961).
In 1964 she played Consuelo Baxter in Sergio Leone's A Fistful of Dollars.
His collaboration with Pier Paolo Pasolini dates back to 1969, for whom he starred in Porcile.
The producer Carlo Ponti launched it in Italy.
Tinto Brass (The holiday), Nanni Moretti (The mass is over), the Taviani brothers (Kaos, The night of San Lorenzo, Good morning Babilonia, The sun also at night) are other Italian directors with whom he worked Lozano, celebrated at home as "an icon" of 20th century cinema.
