Mini-jobbers are allowed to earn 450 euros per month.

But what happens if I exceed the earnings limit?

A mini-job or a 450-euro job* is a good way to earn some extra money.

Especially mothers, pensioners or students are often found in such marginal jobs.

However, the employees must strictly adhere to the earnings limit in order not to risk a loss of salary*.

Mini job: How much money can I earn per month?

If you have a mini-job, you

can earn up to 450 euros a month

.

This is the monthly earnings limit for mini jobs.

It can be a maximum of 5,400 euros per year if the employee works 12 months.

Only then is there marginal employment, in which no duties and taxes are due for the employee.

The net salary is the same as the gross salary.

Incidentally, the mini-job limit is to be increased to 520 euros in 2022.

Be careful with special payments

Special payments such as

Christmas or vacation pay

count towards the annual earnings limit.

Mini-jobbers must therefore take this into account when planning their work.

What happens if I exceed the mini-job limit of 450 euros?

If a mini-jobber regularly exceeds the monthly earnings limit of 450 euros, this is no longer a marginal job.

The employee slips into an

employment

relationship that is subject to social security contributions .

Taxes and duties must therefore be paid on wages.

Mini job next to the main job?

Then you have to pay attention to one thing.

Earnings limit can be exceeded up to three times per year

However, there are exceptions:

  • Annual earnings up to 5,400 euros:

    as long as

the mini-jobber does not exceed the annual earnings limit, he may also earn more than 450 euros several times.

    The

    Minijob-Zentrale

points this out on its blog.

  • Annual earnings over 5,400 euros: Mini-jobbers may exceed the monthly earnings limit

    up to three times

    within a 12-month period

    without jeopardizing their mini-job status.

The prerequisite for this is that the exceptions “occasionally” and “unforeseeably” happen, for example because the employee has to step in as sick cover.

How high the salary is in these exceptional months is irrelevant.

Did you know?

In 2022 there will be some changes for mini-jobbers.
