The board of Mps unanimously approved the appointment of Luigi Lovaglio as CEO and general manager of Mps after having revoked, again unanimously, the powers of Guido Bastianini.

The board of directors, explains a note, "unanimously came to the conclusion that Dr. Luigi Lovaglio, by virtue of his relevant experience also at an international level, combined with his in-depth knowledge of the Italian banking sector, is the most suitable profile to cover the role of chief executive officer and general manager of the bank ".

Bastianini was unanimously and immediately revoked the powers of general manager, chief executive officer and director in charge of the internal control and risk management system of Mps, as well as of all related powers, while the latter remained in office as a member of the board of directors. The bank specifies "that the replacement of the chief executive officer and general manager is governed by a succession plan adopted by the bank, with the involvement of the nomination committee and the remuneration committee of the same for the relevant aspects". The board of statutory auditors approved the co-optation of Lovaglio pursuant to article 2386 of the civil code. The appointment of Lovaglio will be subject to evaluation by the ECB, concludes the note.

Mps closed 2021 with a net profit of 310 million euros, the best result that the bank has achieved since 2015 and one of the best in the last decade in which the Sienese institute recorded a total of 23.5 billion euros in losses .

We read it in a note.

Last year closed with a loss of € 1.69 billion.

The CEO, Guido Bastianini, left the board of MPS after presenting the 2021 accounts, the best since 2015, to go to the funeral of his sister, who passed away in recent days.

The board of directors went ahead with the discussion on his revocation and approved the withdrawal of the banker's proxies, who had already lost both parents in his absence at the beginning of the year.

This is what ANSA learns from some sources at the end of the board of directors of Mps, in whose note the reasons for the withdrawal of the proxies are not indicated.
