Following a Holocaust joke: Petition against Jimmy Carr Israel today

2022-02-08T14:10:51.230Z

The successful comedian presented some of his "dark stuff", as it was called the stand-up special starring him, and a certain statement that appeared in it caused a stir • Now viewers are demanding that Netflix remove the show from the platform

A pointless joke, and some would say shameful, could do irreparable damage to the career of successful comedian Jimmy Carr.

The stand-up special "Jimmy Carr's Dark Materials" aired on Netflix late last year, and as of today a huge one with more than 16,000 signatures requires the streaming powerhouse to remove the show from the platform immediately.

The reason - a horrific joke about the Holocaust, this language and a free translation from English: "When people talk about the Holocaust, they are talking about the tragedy of the six million Jews whose lives were deprived by the Nazi war machine. But they never talk about the thousands of gypsies the Nazis killed either. They are talked about because no one wants to talk about ... the positive things. "

Needless to say, many were greatly hurt by the unsuccessful joke of the 49-year-old British entertainer, who enjoyed millions of followers on social media.

Now, as mentioned, the organizers of the petition, called "The Roman Genocide (another name for gypsies - DP) is nothing to laugh about", are doing their best to get Netflix to shelve the show.

"Hundreds of thousands of gypsies and nomads were killed in the Holocaust," the petition was written by The Traveler Movement, a British organization working for gypsies.

"The Romanian people call it 'the predation,' while historians estimate that between a quarter and a half of the Romanian population fell victim to the Nazis. Surviving communities face to this day tremendous traumas resulting from this horrific crime."

Although the creators of the petition emphasize that humor is a subjective thing, and admit that Carr, known for his blunt and cynical humor, may have intended to raise awareness of the gypsy Holocaust in a kind of upside-down way, the comedian claims he crossed a red line.

"There is no legitimate basis for this 'joke', and any positive intention is dwarfed by its negative consequences," the petition argued.

An official response from Carr and Netflix has not yet been received.
