If your child’s corona test is positive, they remain isolated at home.

Do parents have to be in quarantine then?

Or are they allowed to go to work?

In schools, children are currently being tested for the corona virus * several times a week with rapid tests.

But even daycare children have to take a test before the start of care, especially if they show symptoms of a corona infection such as a runny nose, cough or fever.

If the test is positive, they must be isolated.

Parents and siblings may then also have to be in quarantine – but not in every case.

The child's corona self-test is positive - what happens now?

As soon as the rapid corona test, which is carried out at school, shows a positive result in your child, it is considered a suspected corona case and the child has to go home in quarantine.

If a pool test is carried out in the class and the result is positive, the individual samples from the students are evaluated.

While the school informs the health department and, if necessary, sends classmates home to voluntarily isolate themselves (please note the current regulations in your state or school), the parents of the child who tested positive must have a

PCR test carried out on their child

.

The latter also applies if a self-test was carried out at home.

If the PCR test is also positive, the parents will be contacted by the health department and

the child will be isolated for

several days (for vaccinated young people who fall ill despite corona immunization, the isolation period should be shorter).

With a few exceptions, your child is not allowed to leave the home or receive visitors during domestic isolation – even if they are not showing any symptoms.

The responsible health authority will inform you about the point in time from which your child can attend daycare or school again and whether an early free test is possible.

Your child was only quarantined as a contact person of a corona-positive person?

Then the following quarantine regulations apply to the parents.

Do parents and siblings also have to be in quarantine?

The regulation on the obligation to isolate and quarantine is determined by the respective state ordinance.

In Bavaria, for example, the following currently applies

(as of February 8, 2022)

: If close contacts, i.e. parents or siblings in the household,

are fully vaccinated and boosted

and do not show any corona symptoms, they

do not have to be in quarantine

.

The same applies to people who have been fully vaccinated no more than 90 days ago, and those who have recovered with two corona vaccinations.

The reason: According to the current state of knowledge, the risk of transmission from vaccinated people is significantly lower.

Also

recovered family members

who contracted Covid-19 within the last three months are exempt from the quarantine obligation.

If typical corona symptoms occur in the household members of the sick person within 20 days, the health department must be informed.

This can then order a quarantine despite vaccination or recovery.

Quarantine for several days is always mandatory

for

unvaccinated parents or family members in the household.

You can find out how long it lasts and when you can take a free test from the responsible health authority.

In Bavaria, for example, there is a ten-day quarantine obligation

(as of February 8, 2022)

.

This period also applies if other family members fall ill with Corona in the meantime.

A free test can take place after seven days, for schoolchildren and daycare children after five days.

However, unvaccinated workers in quarantine are not entitled to continued payment of wages if they are not ill.

Can I go to work if my child is Corona positive?

If the parents of a corona-positive child

do not have to go into quarantine themselves

, they can continue to work.

They are even obliged to work, be it in the home office or at work.

However, external care of the infected child by grandparents or other external care options is out of the question.

If the parents cannot ensure that the child is looked after (also applies in the home office), they are also available for children under the age of twelve who are required to be isolated and quarantined

Children's sick days

 too.

This means that employees can be released from work and receive compensation for the loss of earnings, the

child sickness benefit

.

The continued payment of wages is thus secured.

Parents who have to be in quarantine

and do not show any symptoms of Covid disease are not allowed to come to the workplace, but may have to work from home.
