Best Actor Nominee: Benedict Cumberbatch in The Power of the Dog

When it came to Oscar nominations, the favorites didn't disappoint.
But there are also surprise candidates.
The Japanese film »Drive my Car« was not only nominated in the category of best international film, but also for best film, best director and best adapted screenplay.
The Netflix western »The Power of the Dog« got the most nominations, namely twelve.
These include Bendict Cumberbatch for Best Actor and Jane Campion for Best Director - making her the first woman ever to be nominated twice in that category.
The science fiction blockbuster »Dune« also lived up to expectations with ten nominations, including in the main category of best film.
In addition to Cumberbatch, the following are in the running for best actor: Javier Bardem (»Being the Ricardos«), Will Smith (»King Richard«), Andrew Garfield (»Tick, Tick...Boom!«) and Denzel Washington (»The Tragedy of McBeth«).
Best Actress: Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye), Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter), Penélope Cruz (Parallel Mothers), Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos), and Kristen Stewart ("Spencer").
According to the Academy, the best films include »The Power of the Dog«, »Dune« and »Drive my Car« and »Belfast«, »Coda«, »Don't Look Up«, »King Richard«, » Licorize Pizza, Nightmare Alley and West Side Story.
German composer Hans Zimmer earned his twelfth nomination for the film score for Dune.
The German film »I am your human« by director Maria Schrader did not make it among the nominees.
The Oscars will be on March 27th.
Awarded for the 94th time.
They are considered the most important award in the film industry.
