While the "Hijabeuses", these veiled Muslim women banned from competition by several French sports federations, had planned to demonstrate by playing football in front of the National Assembly this Wednesday afternoon to protest against an amendment prohibiting the wearing of conspicuous religious symbols in sport, the demonstration was banned by the Paris police headquarters on Tuesday.

“It is to be feared that this demonstration will attract, in addition to the people who support it, people hostile to the cause defended and likely to do battle with the first”, justifies in a press release the prefect, who “issued an order prohibition of this demonstration.
A first mobilization before the Senate
Last week, the collective had demonstrated in front of the Senate by playing football, at a time when senators were debating several amendments, including the one prohibiting the wearing of the veil during sports competitions, within the framework of the discussion in Parliament of the proposal for law aimed at democratizing sport – the text must be discussed again on Wednesday in the National Assembly.
Grouped around the Citizen Alliance association, the "Hijabeuses" are leading a campaign so that all women, and in particular Muslim women, can practice their sport in competition and wear the veil.
The French Football Federation still prohibits the wearing of the veil within its championships, while Fifa has authorized it since 2014.
