Fuel prices continue to rise and reach new highs.

The reason is the rise in the price of crude oil, says the ADAC.

Munich - For motorists, the way to the gas station has not been a pleasant one lately.

Because refueling has again become more expensive for consumers in Germany: Both the prices for petrol and diesel reached “new historic highs”, as the ADAC announced on Wednesday in Munich.

Accordingly, the price for a liter of Super E10 climbed by 1.3 cents within a week and is currently at 1.725 euros on average nationwide.

The price of diesel fuel rose by 1.4 cents to 1.654 euros.

Expensive fuel prices: according to ADAC, the reason for this is the increase in the price of crude oil

According to the ADAC, the reason for the renewed increase in fuel prices is the rise in the price of crude oil.

A barrel (159 liters) of Brent oil is currently trading at $91 (equivalent to almost €80), which corresponds to a plus of two dollars compared to the previous week.

In view of the significantly increased fuel prices - and thus also the costs for the journey to work - the ADAC spoke out in favor of raising the distance allowance.

The increase to 38 cents per kilometer should be brought forward and also apply from the first kilometer of the one-way distance to work, demanded the Automobile Club.

The plan so far is that from 2024, 38 cents can be claimed from the 21st kilometer.

More expensive diesel and petrol: Minister of Finance is open to increasing the commuter allowance

Recently, because of the high energy prices, Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) was also open to increasing the commuter allowance.

Criticism of the initiative was raised on Tuesday from the ranks of the Greens.

Massive objections also came from the left-wing faction - the lump sum puts top earners in a better position and does not help low earners, pensioners and students who pay little or no income tax.

Municipal representatives, on the other hand, praised Lindner's statements.
