Open: the prosecutor asks for the trial for Renzi and 10 other suspects

The Florence public prosecutor asked for the indictment of 11 suspects, including Matteo Renzi

, for the investigation into the alleged irregularities in the funding of Open, the foundation created to support the political initiatives of the former prime minister.

Among the suspects for which the trial was requested there are also

Maria Elena Boschi, Luca Lotti, the former president of Open Alberto Bianchi and the entrepreneur Marco Carrai

.

Four companies are also involved in the investigation.

The preliminary hearing will be held on April 4th. 

The crimes contested in the investigation, for various reasons, are those of

illegal party financing, trafficking in influences, corruption, issuing invoices for non-existent transactions and self-laundering.

Senator Renzi, considered by the investigators to be the de facto director of the former foundation, is accused of illegal financing of parties in competition with the former president of Open, lawyer Alberto Bianchi, with the members of the board of directors, Marco Carrai, Luca Lotti and Maria Elena Boschi and with the entrepreneur Patrizio Donnini.

Luca Lotti, Alberto Bianchi, Patrizio Donnini will also have to defend themselves against corruption charges together with the builder Alfonso Toto.

"Today the preliminary hearing for the Open trial has been set to be held on April 4 - affirms Renzi in a note - It is a foregone and widely awaited act that comes years after the November kidnappings. 2019 then judged illegitimate by the Court of Cassation. The trial finally begins in the classrooms and not only in the media. And citizens will now be able to realize how fragile the accusation is and how scandalous are the methods used by the Florence prosecutor " . 

Meanwhile, Renzi's press office announced that the

senator today "has signed a formal criminal complaint against the magistrates Creazzo, Turco, Nastasi".

"The deed signed by the senator - states a note - will be sent to the Public Prosecutor of Genoa, competent on Florentine colleagues, for violation of article 68 of the Constitution, of law 140/2003 and article 323 of the penal code. Renzi asked to be heard by the Genoese prosecutors reserving the right to produce material to corroborate the criminal complaint against Creazzo, Turco, Nastasi ".
