Opinion | Thus the government surrendered to Corona and sacrificed the citizens of Israel Israel today

2022-02-09T17:05:20.487Z

Nearly 10,000 Mati Corona, of which 3,000 are already in the current wave • Massive morbidity with thousands of patients in critical condition • Hospitals with maximum capacity • Disgraceful level of immunization among youth and children • Under-functioning schools • And now also a surge in prices • The Israeli government, what exactly is your role in power?

The data from the fifth wave, the Omicron wave, indicate that by the end of this month, the State of Israel will cross the threshold of ten thousand people who have died from the disease, and more than 3,000 who have died in the current wave.

At the same time, we are consciously radiating "industrial quiet" and as if "living next to the corona", while the Israeli government has practically succumbed to the virus in this wave, literally, creating in a bulky area, under-functioning of systems and zero trust of the entire public.

The term "scandalous omission" cannot be overstated in the situation we have reached, for a number of reasons: preparation, coping, consciousness, and most of all - ineffectiveness.

Preparations

At the level of preparedness, as early as November, the government received a "strategic warning" regarding the impending wave of morbidity.

They knew that this wave would bring with it tens of thousands of verified people a day and thousands of patients in critical condition, but reassured that the virus was less deadly and did not assume, apparently, that we would reach the level of mortality as it actually occurred.

The statements about preparation in the context of drugs and vaccines were in the air, but in practice the level of immunization has dropped and among the youth and children it has failed miserably.

The citizens of Israel found themselves entering a wave of massive illness in mid-December, while vital systems such as education were not prepared for it at all, under a sense of "the bride" and of something light-hearted that would pass.

In this way, for example, the students returned from the Hanukkah holiday to schools - which within a few days became dysfunctional, with each week 20-30% of the students going into isolation or actually falling ill, and the teachers behaved accordingly.

In fact, during the entire month of January the schools were under-functioning and without a proper response to the developing situation.

Similarly, hospitals have reached maximum capacity and even more, with understaffing resulting from medical staff who have fallen ill or gone into isolation - with huge loads and declining service levels.

The director of Rambam Hospital even claimed in an interview with him that in the current situation, the level of service of the hospital is severely affected and he will not be able to provide the best service.

The failure to prepare is intolerable in the face of the warning that was a month in advance - a whole month during which one could expect, for example, that the education system would build a hybrid action plan or capsules or any possible way to reduce morbidity and create certainty.

Instead, the education minister pushed for "everything as usual," when nothing really was as usual.

Thus, huge gaps in education were created in January and now, in mid-February, it can already be declared that these are "lost two months".

In this context, it is worth remembering that in a month and a half the students will go on spring vacations and then, in the familiar dynamics, the school year will actually end.

This is not a lost month - this is a lost year.

Coping

At the level of coping, beyond all errors, erosion of the green mark is the worst of all.

All data from the Ministry of Health clearly indicate a huge advantage of vaccinated against the disease.

Fresh vaccinated are almost never infected, and vaccinated in general hardly reach serious illness or hospitalization.

The green mark is an indication of the resilience of individuals and a collective.

The Israeli government has played the green mark throughout this period - in contradictory statements among ministers about the effectiveness of vaccines, contempt for Dr. Elrai Price, who is in charge of public health, and non-enforcement of the mark regulations. We contracted this disease.

There was talk of "herd immunization", a concept that the health care system bothered to refute days and nights - but the dogs barked and the caravan kept passing.

In practice, the government chose not to deal with the virus and its consequences.

It was all imposed on the confused and sick public, leading to a declining mistrust in the system we are all paying for.

The state has abandoned us to a wave of illness that was, in fact, no less deadly than its predecessors - and in many ways, even more so.

consciousness

At the level of consciousness, this is an unprecedented scandal.

The daily data transparency of the health system presented a shocking picture - almost one hundred thousand infected for a few weeks, a set of course tests - but nonetheless the mainstream media took things in stride and broadcast "everything turned around", "the virus is less deadly" and other such language coins.

Statements about the "bride of the dead" were received with equanimity, and complaints against the government were hardly heard.

The lack of media criticism in the face of this catastrophe suggests to us how much the media has become political - these are caressed, and teeth are exposed to others.

"From the Bounce," the so-called.

As morbidity rates became staggering, the media welcomed the abolition of the green label and the return of schools to routine, the main thing being that the economy "works".

The announcement of the crossing of the 9,000 dead line was received with feelings of comfort that here, it is about to end and one already sees a moderation.

This laxity allowed the Israeli government to contain and continue to deepen the magnitude of the default.

What we are witnessing is the shaky ineffectiveness of the governmental system.

A man right in his own eyes will do, and as mentioned - a complete surrender to the plague as if it were a "destiny", while there are mechanisms whose activation could have changed the situation fundamentally.

For example, in enforcing the green mark with rigidity, in changing the format of studies for a month and a half, in imposing sanctions on vaccine opponents, and in harnessing the population to a massive immunization of 12-5 year olds.

In a few weeks, the line of 10,000 dead will be crossed from Corona, as mentioned, with more than 3,000 deaths in the current wave, and the most amazing of all is that our government is boasting success - despite strategic warning, vaccinations and experience from four previous waves.

Indeed, healing and change.

And now that the economy is working, another wave has arrived - "the wave of rising prices", you could already call it - and even in this wave the government has been broadcasting laxity for a month and calling on the public to "go out to protest consumers", no less.

So the Israeli government, a group of more than 30 ministers and deputies, I turn to you: If the corona has passed to public responsibility, and the war on rising prices has passed to the public - what are you doing there?

Or in military parlance: "What is your role in force?"

Were we wrong?

Fixed!
