Elizabeth II, aged 95, celebrated her platinum jubilee on Sunday February 6, an event marking her 70 years of reign.

On the eve of the anniversary, on Saturday February 5, the Queen kicked off the festivities by hosting a reception for members of the local community and volunteer groups at her residence in Sandringham.

Dressed in a light blue dress adorned with two diamond brooches, her neck adorned with a pearl necklace, the queen wore a radiant smile throughout the day.

During the reception, she was photographed cutting her cake, while carrying a cane.

Experts quickly noticed that it was that of prince Philip, her husband who died in April 2021.

“I recognized the cane instantly, as it was still stored in a pot by the front door,” royal biographer Gyles Brandreth told The

on Monday February 7 .

Before adding: "It was the cane of the duke

, and it is very touching that the queen has started to use it."

We were able to see the sovereign during an official outing, curled up in a khaki coat, the brown cane in one hand and her black handbag in the other.

Prince Philip, who died aged 99, last used his cane in public in 2013 while recovering from abdominal surgery.

Her Majesty, meanwhile, started using one for walking in October 2021, which had raised concerns about her health.

After spending a night in hospital on October 21, the Queen was forced to cancel several of her official engagements to rest.
