Where employees expect the best salary.

paid jobs in Germany

are in medicine, as well as in the tech and financial sectors.

But not only profession and industry decide on a top salary*.

The location and size of the company also have a decisive influence on the level of income, as the study shows.

Salary report 2022 at a glance: How much do Germans earn?

The 2022 Salary Report provides exciting insights into how much Germans are currently earning.

Facts at a glance:

  • The

    average salary in Germany

    is 51,009 euros gross

    per year.

    The annual median salary (mean value) is 44,074 euros gross.

  • Women

    earn a median of EUR 40,533 gross per year,

    men

    EUR 47,320 gross.

  • Personnel responsibility is rewarded: The gross salary of

    managers

    is 86,349 euros per year, while specialists without personnel responsibility earn a median of 43,628 euros gross.

  • In

    Hesse

    , the average median salary is the highest in Germany at 47,840 euros.

    Baden-Württemberg follows in second place with 47,806 euros, Bavaria comes in third place (46,800 euros). 

  • The ranking of the big cities is dominated by

    Frankfurt am Main

    with 54,100 euros.

    Munich (53,900 euros) and Stuttgart (53,600 euros) follow.

These are the best-paid professions in Germany in 2022

As in previous years, the best-paid profession in Germany comes from the professional group of academics.

Doctors

are among the top earners with a median salary of

78,317 euros

.

No wonder: they bear a lot of responsibility for the health of their patients and the professional requirements are high.

This job is rewarded accordingly.

They earn around 78 percent more than the average.

In second place are employees in

sales

(e.g. key account management), who end up in the upper range of the ranking, mainly due to flexible salary components such as bonuses.

Management consultants

master complicated challenges that need to be solved quickly and flexibly.

They are paid top wages for this - and accordingly end up in 3rd place. The salaries at a glance:

In the professions without academic training, financial experts earn

 best: They can look forward to a median gross annual salary of EUR 43,175, followed by

HR

 managers (EUR 42,011).

What is the median?

The median is the value that is exactly in the middle of all values.

This means that there are exactly the same number of salaries that are lower and higher than the median salary.
