They are the majority in the judiciary, yet
only 32% are president of a court or appellate court
, while
a narrow 22% are at the helm of a prosecutor's office
.
The latest data on women in togas confirm how long there is still a long way to go for equality.
The Ministry of Justice released them on the occasion of the anniversary of the law that opened the doors of the judiciary to them.
Out of a total of 9,624 magistrates in service, women are 55%
: 5,308 against 4,316 men.
The sore points concern the top positions.
In the judging positions of command only 32% hold top positions against 68% of men: translated into numbers 78 against 169. It is a little better in the semi-executive roles with 48% occupied by women compared to 52% held by men.
There are still too few female prosecutors: 39 (22%) compared to 137 men (78%).
Yet even in the prosecutors the "pink" togas are the majority, 51% of the prosecutors.
