The Supreme Court confirmed the sentence of life imprisonment for the former Peruvian dictator Francisco Morales Bermúdez, accused of the disappearance of several Italians perpetrated through the Condor Plan, the system of repression of political opponents in Latin America in the 70s and 80s .

The first section rejected the appeal filed after the first and second instance sentences against Morales Bermúdez, who turned 100 last October, and Martinez Garay.

A third applicant, Ruiz Figuroa, meanwhile - in 2019 - has passed away.

The previous proceedings, in the first and second instance, had seen the position of the former Heads of State and exponents of the military juntas and security services of Bolivia, Chile, Peru and Uruguay in office between the 70s and 80s under scrutiny, accused of having carried out a repression against opponents in those years.

Among the twenty-seven defendants, eight of whom accused of the aggravated multiple murder of 23 Italian victims of the repression, there were also Luis Garcia Meza Tejada (former president of Bolivia), Luis Arce Gomez (interior minister of Bolivia), Juan Carlo Blanco ( foreign ministry of Uruguay), Jeronimo Hernan Ramirez Ramirez (military from Chile), Valderrama Ahumada (former colonel of the army of Chile) and Pedro Richter Prada (former prime minister of Peru, later deceased).
