A now-suspended officer has confessed to using cocaine and passing it on to colleagues. The man also warned his dealer. Guilt, according to the 28-year-old, was also a double burden.

In tears, an accused ex-official in a drug trial with the Munich police made an extensive confession.

He "did shit," said the 28-year-old police officer on Thursday before the Munich district court.

»We partied together, we used drugs together.«

He wanted to be "open and honest," said the now-suspended man.

"It was a combination of huge weakness and my somehow young age." In 2016 he consumed cocaine for the first time.

"Something the hell made me say yes."

Charged with 79 felonies

The man described a large professional and private "double burden" because he regularly had to commute from Munich to his family in Thuringia.

He needed “an outlet”: “At some point I just realized physically that it was just killing me.” He called his drug use in Munich’s nightlife a “parallel world”.

A "possibility to break out".

But the man is said not only to have consumed cocaine.

The 28-year-old is accused of 79 criminal offenses – including illegal possession and dealing in narcotics, as well as embezzlement and the betrayal of official secrets.

The drug scandal shook the police headquarters in Munich in 2020.

Prosecutors conducted 39 investigations against 37 police officers and filed six charges.

According to spokeswoman Anne Leiding, a penal order was requested in twelve cases.

In some cases, the investigations also targeted irreproachable officials who had to deal with serious consequences.

In the current trial before the Munich district court, the public prosecutor's office accuses the police officer, who has since been suspended, of having had cocaine delivered to the police station and to the Oktoberfest duty.

He is also said to have sold drugs to colleagues himself and warned his dealer about investigations.

In his statement, however, the accused denied having enriched himself through the resale of cocaine.

He got the drugs for others - but never asked for more money than he paid for them himself.

The legal processing of the scandal will continue in the coming week.

A new trial against another accused police officer begins on Tuesday.

The verdict in the case against the 28-year-old could fall on February 16.
