For some time now, there has been a central question: How many booster vaccinations against the corona virus will there be?

Many people around the world have now been

vaccinated against Covid

at least once .

In Germany, some have already received the third vaccination, the so-called

booster

.

Because although for a long time one was considered to be fully vaccinated with two vaccinations, the spread of virus variants quickly made it clear that a further

booster vaccination

was required in order to maintain protection against the virus.

But even a third vaccination did not bring the hoped-for end to the corona pandemic.

You can also become infected with the virus variant Omicron with a booster vaccination, for example.

Will a fourth and then a fifth booster vaccination follow?

Do you have to be boosted a second time against Corona?

The Standing Vaccination Commission (STIKO) recommends a

second booster vaccination for groups that are particularly at risk.

So people who are older than 70 years old and those with a weak immune system should have their protection against corona renewed with a second booster vaccination.

This reduces the risk of a severe course of the disease for these vulnerable groups.

The World Health Organization (WHO) believes that boosting will not work in the long run.

Rather,

new, more powerful vaccines

would have to be developed.

Scientists around the world are working on their research.

Can a fourth vaccination do more harm than good?

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) warns against giving too many booster shots.

According to the EMA, "continuous vaccination" could impair the immune response.

With a fourth vaccination, however, there would be no reason to worry

.

The only question is how much she still uses.

Virologist Drosten speaks of immunity through vaccination and infection

"The ideal immunization is that you have a

complete vaccine immunization with three doses

and on the basis of this immunization you are then infected with the virus for the first and second and third time and that you develop mucosal immunity as a result without having to accept severe courses ", said the

Charité virologist Christian Drosten

in the NDR podcast.

How good the protection is sometimes depends on how severe the infection was.

From the pandemic to the endemic not through many booster vaccinations - that's what virologist Streeck thinks

The

virologist Hendrik Streeck

is also convinced that the vaccination protection against the corona virus does not have to be refreshed again and again with vaccinations.

Because nature does that by itself, it is only important to be vaccinated at all.

Both Streeck and Drosten say that the

pandemic

would turn into an endemic.

As a result, further booster vaccinations are not necessary, at least for the majority of the population.
