Another journalist has been murdered in Mexico.
According to information from the AFP news agency, the public prosecutor's office in the state of Oaxaca in the south of the country announced that the two suspected murderers had been arrested.
The head of the news portal »Noticias Web«, Heber López Vázquez, was killed in his car.
Other media such as the British »Guardian« report that he was shot while leaving his office in Salina Cruz.
It is the fifth murder of a journalist in Mexico since the beginning of the year.
In addition to the suspects, the police also secured the murder weapons, prosecutor Arturo Calvo told the Milenio news channel.
The suspected killers were caught on the run.
Calvo did not rule out that they were contract offenders.
Mexico is considered one of the most dangerous countries for journalists.
According to the organization Reporters Without Borders (RSF), at least seven journalists were murdered in 2021.
Afghanistan is in second place: according to information from the RSF, at least six people were killed there last year, most of them in assassinations and bombings to which the "Islamic State" or the Taliban claimed responsibility.
Two journalists arrested in Afghanistan
On Friday, the UN refugee agency said that two foreign journalists had been arrested in Kabul.
Both worked for the UN organization in Kabul.
Afghan nationals were also taken into custody.
“We are doing our utmost to clarify the situation in coordination with others.
Given the nature of the situation, we will not be making any further comments," UNHCR tweeted.
The organization did not provide any information on the identity of those arrested.
According to information from the AFP news agency, one of the journalists is former BBC correspondent and experienced Afghanistan reporter Andrew North.
Since the Taliban took power in August last year, there have been more arrests of members of the opposition in Afghanistan, and demonstrations critical of the government have been violently dispersed.
Journalists are also affected: earlier this month, two Afghan journalists were detained for a few days before being released.
